Acceptable use
Keep it small and silly
Last updated October 9, 2026
Almost everything you type in Alibi Town stays at your own table. Three things can be seen by other people: a town page you publish, a case you write (if it ends up on a town page), and the note sent with a gift. These rules are about those, and about not misusing the game itself.
What must not go where others can see it
- Anyone's private details: full names with addresses, phone numbers, where a child goes to school, and the like. First names and nicknames from your own table are fine if those people are happy to be named.
- Anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexual, or that threatens or bullies anyone, real or made up to look real.
- Accusations of real wrongdoing. The crimes in this game are stolen pies. Keep them that way.
- Other people's work that you have no right to use, or anything passed off as someone else's.
- Advertising, or links. A gift note with a link in it is not sent.
Using the game itself
- Don't use automated tools to hammer the site, or try to get at the systems behind it.
- Don't use the live townsfolk for anything but playing a case.
- A key is for your own household. Don't publish it or sell it.
- Don't use a gift's email to contact someone who wouldn't want to hear from you.
If you see something that breaks these rules
Write to support@alibitown.com with the town page's link, or a description of what you saw. We will look at it and, if it breaks these rules, take the page down. We don't promise a response time, but reports are dealt with before anything else.
Copyright
If you believe something on a town page copies your work, write to support@alibitown.com with the page's link, what the work is, and your contact details, and say that you are the owner or act for them. We will take it down while it is looked into.
What we may do
We may take down a town page, or stop a key from being used to write cases or send gifts, without notice, where these rules are broken. Taking a page down deletes the published copy only: the town in the player's own browser is not touched. We don't read towns that have not been published, and we cannot: they are not on our server unless a key saves them, and then only under the key.
