The terms of the town
Last updated October 9, 2026 (links to the refund, AI and acceptable use pages added)
Alibi Town is free to play, with three things for sale: seasons three, four and five. It is offered as it is. Play it kindly, don't try to break it, and remember your town lives in your browser, so we can't get it back if it's lost.
Who we are
Alibi Town is run by Media Yard LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company ("we", "us"). By playing, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't play.
The game
- The game, seasons one and two and the Daily Alibi are free and need no account.
- Your town is saved in your browser on this device. If you hold a paid-for key, a copy is also saved with that key; without one we keep no copy and cannot restore one.
- Phone rooms are free. A room is temporary: it closes two hours after it goes quiet, or when its host closes it.
- We may change, pause or end the game at any time.
Paid seasons
- Season three ("The Grandmaster"), season four ("The Editor") and season five ("The Copycat") are each ten cases and a story. Each costs $19. Seasons three and four bought together cost $29, and all three bought together cost $39. Tax is added where it applies. You pay once; there is no subscription and nothing renews. A together price is offered only to someone who owns none of the seasons in it.
- The seasons are played in order. Season three opens once a town has finished seasons one and two, season four once it has finished season three, and season five once it has finished season four. You can buy any of them at any time; buying a later season does not include the earlier ones.
- Payment is taken by Stripe, which is the seller of record. After paying you are given a key; a later purchase is added to the same key. The key opens what you have bought in any browser you enter it in, for your own household's use. Please don't publish or sell it.
- Keep your key. It brings back the seasons you bought and the copy of your town saved with it, as the privacy page describes. Where the site offers to email your key and you used it, we can send the key to that same address again; otherwise we hold no way to reach you and cannot recover a lost key. If a purchase is refunded, what it unlocked stops working.
- Refunds: if you ask within 14 days of buying, we will refund you in full. Write to support@alibitown.com with the email you paid with. The Refunds page says what happens to your key. Nothing here limits any right to a refund that your local law gives you.
- Gifts: a season bought as a gift comes with a key of its own, for you to give to someone else. It is not added to your key. We can email it to them for you, up to three times; the same refund terms apply, and a refunded gift stops working for whoever holds it.
- Writing your own cases is included with any paid season. They play on one device and are not part of a season's story.
- We may change the price for future buyers. If we ever stop offering the game, we will try to give notice here first.
What you write
Place names and alibis are yours. They stay on your device, except as the privacy page describes: when live townsfolk are seated, when you play in a phone room, when your town is saved with a key, when you write a case of your own, and when you choose to make a town page. Don't write anything unlawful, hateful or that gives away someone's private details.
A town page is public to anyone with its link, and you are responsible for what is on it. Make one only if everyone named in your town is happy to be. We may take down a page, without notice, that shows something unlawful, hateful or private; the Acceptable use page sets out the rules and how to report something. The note sent with a gift follows the same rule, and may not contain links.
The townsfolk
When the townsfolk are live, their lines are written by an AI model. They are meant to be gentle and silly, but an AI can say something odd, wrong or unsuitable. Nothing a townsperson says is advice or a statement of fact. If one says something it shouldn't, please tell us. The AI page says where AI is used and what is sent to it.
Fair use
Don't use automated tools to hammer the site, try to get at the systems behind it, or use the townsfolk for anything other than playing the game.
No warranty, limited liability
The game is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. To the same extent, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for the loss of a town or its records, and our total liability to you is limited to fifty US dollars. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be limited.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States.
